|Troy-Bilt Neighborhood Riding Mower|
One of the perks of being a member of the Troy-Bilt Saturday6 is that I get to test out their products, and I even get to keep a couple (and I get to give you one too!). Troy-Bilt gave me the TB30 R Neighborhood Rider to review (and keep), and I get to tell you all about it.
I've never owned or even driven a riding lawn mower before joining the Saturday6 team. I've always used a walk behind mower to cut the grass, and it's always been a chore. It takes me over an hour to mow the lawn with our walk behind mower. Now that I have the Neighborhood Rider, my mowing time has been cut in half.

I've always wanted a riding mower, but haven't gotten one because our yard is pretty small. Plus, we put up a fence a few years ago and the gates were a concern. We borrowed our neighbor's riding mower once, and it barely fit through our gate. We actually nicked the gate a few times trying to fit through (Doh!).
But this mower was specifically designed for people like me who have small yards and gates to fit through. It's only 30" wide, so it easily fits through the gate.

As you can see, I have grass paths between all of my gardens. I was worried that a riding mower wouldn't fit through the narrow paths in the garden. I was prepared to have to get out the walk behind mower to cut those areas.

I was pleasantly surprised that the Neighborhood Rider not only fit, but it's easy to maneuver in those tight spaces.

One of my biggest pet peeves about our walk behind mower is the lawn boogers it leaves behind. These big clumps of grass all over the lawn annoy me so much, that I take extra time going over the spots I just got done mowing in order to get rid of the boogers. I'm happy to report that the Neighborhood mower doesn't leave behind any lawn boogers. It does a beautiful job of cutting and mulching the grass.

Not only has this mower made a huge difference in mowing time, it's been a great asset in the garden too. One of the things that was important to me was that my riding lawn mower have a trailer hookup on the back. I'm always hauling dirt and rock and other heavy things from the driveway to the backyard. Although pushing the wheelbarrow is great exercise, it gets to be too much when you have a yard of dirt or several hundred pounds of rock to haul.
The Neighborhood Rider has a hitch for hooking up an optional trailer attachment1. It sounds funny, but this was the final selling point for me. I love the optional trailer attachment. It makes hauling stuff easy, and saves me from exhaustion, aches and pains.

The Neighborhood Rider will save me countless hours in the yard and garden, and it's fun to drive too. I can't say enough about this mower, I really love it. I'm starting to wonder how I ever lived without it.

One thing that takes some time to get used to is that it's a little jerky when you first start moving. I'm getting better with practice though.
Oh, and I was disappointed when I discovered that there's no horn. It looks like there's a horn, but it's not. Ha!
|No, that's not a horn|
I've had a few of my friends and neighbors test drive it, and here's what they're saying...
"Great turning radius."That reminds me... I forgot to mention the cup holder. It's not just for looks either, I've mowed the entire lawn with my water bottle in the cup holder on several occasions, and it's never fallen out. Nice touch!
"Fun to drive."
"It's like driving a go-kart."
"Easy to drive and steer."
"I want one!"
"Oh look, it has a cup holder!"
