Winter Sowing Status Report #4

I checked my containers today and found that some of them were dried out. We haven't had much snow or rain this winter. If your weather has been dry too, be sure to check your containers to see if they need to be watered.

I've been a busy bee, I sowed 28 more containers this week; that makes 72 for me so far this season. Here's the list of what I've sown this week (some of these are second rounds of seeds I've sown in previous batches)...

  • GA Collards
  • Salsify
  • Spinach Razzle Dazzle Hybrid
  • Oregano
  • Chamomile

  2. I've only done two more since last count. It may be the last I do as it's in the mid 80's here in zone 7a. I have to keep watering mine too. Most have sprotted already.

I don't think this was a good year for me. I started too late for all the warm weather this Feb and March. Next year I'll start in Jan.

    1. Wow, mid-80s!?! That's amazing. You can provably start planting them in the ground. Yep, this year has thrown us all off. With this nice weather, I feel way behind... but I have to keep reminding myself it's only March. Here in MN, March is usually our snowiest month. It feels like June here now. I love it! Hopefully you'll figure out the right timing for your zone next year.

  3. The weather has been so warm here in Western NY! I think we skipped most of winter! I have 54 containers that I have winter sowed and as of this week I have 8 that have sprouts. Because of the warm weather, I am planting some seeds in pots without lids and if it gets too nippy then I just pop them in the mini greenhouse for the night. The one downside to this beautiful spring is we have not had much rain so I have had to keep an eye on my containers to make sure they son't dry out!

    1. Yep, same here in MN. It feels like June here right now! It's awesome! It's been really dry here too, hopefully that's not a sign that this summer will be dry.
