Those are always my first containers to sprout and I kept wondering why they weren't sprouting yet...dah! I'm kind of mad at myself because now I can't compare the date my first container sprouted (broccoli) from last year to this year. Oh well, off to the store to buy some seeds. I will be sowing them ASAP too.
Here is what I've sown this week...
| Winter Sowing Containers |
- Pole Bean mix
- Romano Pole Bean
- Lima Bean
- Asparagus Bean
- Jiminez Bean
- Blue Lake Bean
- KY Wonder Pole Bean
- Morning Glory deep blue
- Sunflower Tall Sungold
- Spilanthes (Eyeball Plant)
- White Butterfly Weed
- Motherwort Leonurus cardiaca
- Petunia mix
- Canderia Radio Extra
- Basil Genovese
- Marigold
The total number of containers sown by YOU so far is up to 283 - how cool is that!?! I'll continue to keep track through the end of April, so keep those numbers coming.
It's hard to believe that less than two weeks ago, those containers in the picture above were covered by snow!
In other news... some of my containers have sprouts!!!! So far, I have 5 containers sprouting... including kohlrabi, lettuce, collards and rutabaga.

I just checked my containers today and I HAVE SPROUTS! =) Pansies, strawflower, broccoli, onion, and painted daisy. Hoping to start more seeds this weekend - tomatoes, blackeyed susan vine, cardinal vine, soap wort.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sprout Day! That's alot of containers. Do you take a vacation to plant it all?! Interesting that you w/s the green beans. Do you do one two a small container? I've read that they don't like to be transplanted, but maybe that's not the strong w/s ones! I just added a new blog post of what's germinated so far, over half of our 52 containers!
ReplyDeleteHere is my sprout list!!!
ReplyDeletePinchushion flowers, Babies Breath, Oregano, Aster, Catchfly, Salvia, Snapdragons, Marjoram, Catnip, Lavender, Lettuce, Rapini, celery, spinach, chamomile, painted daisy, ageratum, cilantro, dill, parsley, shirley poppies, sunflowers, lupine, chives, candy tuft, pinks, chinese kale, sweet william, alyssum, california poppies, corn poppies, gaillardia, cantebury bells, flowering kale, calendula, asters, sea shell cosmos, clarkia, helichrysum, chinese cabbage, dwarf cosmos and brussel sprouts. I even got the veggie garden raked out and ready for tilling and cleaned the flower beds!
@Colleen - congrats!! It's so exciting isn't it?!? Love it! Soon you'll have so many sprouts, you won't be able to keep track. :-)
ReplyDelete@Michele - LOL, no I don't take a vacation day to plant them all...I wish. I don't plant them all at once, I plant the cold weather veggies first, then the warm weather ones. Then I move on to the annuals and perennials. It's a lot of work...but sooooo worth it! I haven't had a problem with transplanting the beans, you're probably right about them being hardy WS ones though. I've never tried starting beans indoors, I've always just sown them directly into the garden. One note about WS beans... they will rot if you WS them too early, that's why I wait until late March/early April (here in z4).
@Kirstie - Wowzers, you have been busy! Look at all those sprouts. It puts my 5 containers to shame! :-) I bet you can start planting some of those soon too. How fun!
Amy
P.S. Michele - Your list of sprouting seed containers is impressive too!! I think I recognize some of those, hopefully the seeds I sent you from my garden are doing well for you! :-) Here's a link to Michele's list if anyone else wants to check it out... Michele's sprouting containers
